Rotary Habitat House
The Anchorage area Rotary Clubs have partnered with Abbott Loop Community
Church and Wells Fargo Bank to sponsor a Habitat for Humanity House.
We will be building a two unit condo at the corner of Bragaw and Peterkin.
The other half of the condo is sponsored by the Catholic Community and
Providence Health Care System. All of our organizations will be
working together on this project as one collective group. Click on this link to view photos of the
Rotary Habitat House Building Progress.
The Anchorage area Rotary clubs have already raised the $20,000
sponsorship fees. We don't need money (although Habitat for Humanity
is always looking for donations), we need volunteers to help build.
No building experience is necessary. A professional site supervisor
will lead all volunteers. All tools are provided as well as lunch
and soft drinks. If you can't help build, volunteer to help with
lunches and sign up and greet volunteers.
Our Habitat family is the Bret and Malinda McKay family. They have
one daughter, Amanda. Bret works for NAPA Auto Parts and Malinda
works housekeeping at the Golden Lion Hotel. Habitat for
Humanity will be having a groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, May 16 at
4:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. It's a great time to
meet "our family". Habitat for Humanity will be installing the
utilities, foundation and deck to our condo unit over the next several
weeks. We begin building on Friday, June 11. Between the
Rotary Clubs, Catholic Community, Providence Health Systems, Abbot Loop
Community Church, Wells Fargo and anyone else that wants to help out, we
need 40-45 volunteers each Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting June 11.
The Rotary Clubs only need to have 8-10 Rotarians per each day we build.
That means we need 8-10 volunteers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday for
about 8-10 weeks straight. The first weekend we will be
framing the first story. The second weekend we will be framing the
second story, setting trusses and roofing. The third weekend we will
be roofing, framing, exterior trim and exterior painting. Then the
professionals come in to do the heating, electrical and plumbing.
Once they are done - we take over again with vapor barrier, insulation,
sheet rock, trim, interior paining, etc. This is an 8-10 weekend
project. You have plenty of opportunity to help out!
To volunteer - please E-mail Dave Bredin at
dave.bredin@enstarnaturalgas.com
or call him at 264-2745. Tell him what day(s) you would like to
volunteer and your phone number. We work 7:30 am-5:00 pm on Friday
and Saturday and noon-5:00 pm on Sunday. We will not work over the
4th of July weekend.
